THE GOOD – Gold
Recent geopolitical events have touched every part of the world. Some for good, but most for the worse. Gold has been a beneficiary in the ‘flight to quality’ rush for defensive assets. The price of gold is up in 2022.
THE BAD – Wheat
As investors, a rise in prices is usually a good thing. However, when it is a staple food item that impacts the lives of billions it’s another matter. The price of wheat has experienced inflation over recent years, like many other costs, but has jumped up further since the invasion of Ukraine.
THE UGLY – Russian Shares
The world has responded to Russia with economic sanctions. The withdrawal of finances has resulted in a collapse of Russia’s equity markets and currency. Russian shares have fallen 80% when valued in U.S. Dollars. The market is no longer providing a price for Russian shares.
